Terms of Service
The service
SubBeam shows live transcription and translation subtitles for audio you choose to share from a browser tab, your microphone, or your screen. By using SubBeam you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Free trial
Each browser may use one free session of up to 60 seconds. The free trial is limited in total each day and may be paused or withdrawn at any time.
Accounts and minutes
To use SubBeam beyond the free trial you sign in with a Google account and buy a pack of minutes. Minutes are used only while captions are running, are counted from when a session starts until it stops, and do not expire. Minutes have no cash value, cannot be transferred to another account, and are for your own use.
Acceptable use
You are responsible for the audio you share. Only caption audio you have the right to use, and follow the laws that apply to you, including laws about recording or transcribing other people. Do not attempt to bypass usage limits, interfere with the service, resell it, or use it to break the law.
Accuracy
Subtitles are produced automatically and will contain mistakes. Do not rely on SubBeam where an error could cause harm, such as medical, legal, safety or emergency situations.
Availability and changes
SubBeam is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We may change, limit or discontinue features, prices or these terms. If we discontinue the service while you hold unused paid minutes, you may request a refund of the unused portion.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, SubBeam is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be limited by law.
Ending use
You may stop using SubBeam at any time. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service or violate these terms.
Privacy Policy
Audio and subtitles
The audio you share is sent directly from your browser to our speech provider, Soniox, to be transcribed and translated in real time. It does not pass through SubBeam's servers, and SubBeam does not store your audio, your video preview, or the subtitles produced. Soniox handles the audio under its own privacy policy.
What we store
- If you sign in: the account identifier and email address provided by Google sign-in, your minute balance, and a record of each purchase (the pack and when it was bought).
- If you use the free trial: a random identifier in a cookie, and the time your trial started.
- For abuse prevention: a one-way hash of your network address with request counts. Hashed network records are deleted automatically after a short period.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and are never seen or stored by SubBeam. Stripe tells us only whether a payment succeeded and for which pack.
Cookies and similar technology
SubBeam uses one essential cookie to remember your free trial, and your browser keeps your sign-in session. To protect the service from automated abuse we use Google Firebase App Check with reCAPTCHA Enterprise, which collects device and browser information under Google's privacy policy and terms. We keep anonymous daily totals, such as how many sessions were started, which languages were translated and which website visitors arrived from, to run and improve the service; these totals do not identify you.
If you choose "Allow" when asked, SubBeam also uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, the site you came from, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. It never receives your audio or subtitles. If you choose "No thanks", Google Analytics is not loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. SubBeam does not use advertising cookies.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers needed to run the service: Google (Firebase hosting, sign-in, database, abuse protection and, with your consent, Google Analytics), Soniox (speech recognition and translation) and Stripe (payments). We do not sell your personal information.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the information tied to your account by emailing us. Deleting your account also removes any unused minutes. We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Children
SubBeam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Refund Policy
If you bought a pack and have not used any of its minutes, email us within 14 days of purchase and we will refund it in full to your original payment method.
If the service did not work for you because of a problem on our side, email us and we will restore the affected minutes or refund them.
Minutes that have already been used are not refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. Refunds normally reach your account within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.
